A Small Ritual for Trusting Yourself Again
Sign in to keep this for your altar.
Sometimes, you just don't trust yourself. Maybe you made a choice that didn't work out, or you ignored a gut feeling and regretted it. It happens to all of us. When that trust frays, it can feel like you're adrift.
But here's the good news: trust isn't a fixed thing. It's a relationship, and like any relationship, you can repair it. You can rebuild it, patiently, with intention. This isn't about grand gestures; it's about small, consistent acts of self-care and listening.
Why Trust Matters
When you trust yourself, you move through the world with more ease. Decisions feel clearer. You're less swayed by external opinions because you have a strong inner compass. It's the foundation for everything else, really – your joy, your peace, your ability to navigate challenges.
And when that trust is damaged, it's hard to feel grounded. You might second-guess every move, feel anxious about the future, or even avoid making decisions altogether. That's a heavy burden to carry.
The Ritual: Reconnecting with Your Core
This ritual uses simple elements you probably already have at home: a candle, a pinch of salt, a glass of water, and your breath. It's about creating a quiet space to listen to yourself.
Gather Your Tools:
Find a quiet spot where you won't be interrupted. Place a small candle (any kind will do) in front of you. Have a glass of water nearby, and a tiny pinch of salt.
Light the Candle, Set Your Intention:
Light your candle. As you watch the flame, take three slow, deep breaths. Inhale through your nose, feeling your belly rise, and exhale slowly through your mouth. With each exhale, imagine releasing any doubt or self-criticism you're holding.
Now, quietly say to yourself, either aloud or in your mind: "I am here to rebuild trust with myself. I am open to listening to my inner wisdom."
Salt for Cleansing, Water for Clarity:
Take that tiny pinch of salt. Hold it in your palm for a moment. Salt has been used for purification for centuries; it's a symbol of clearing away what no longer serves. As you hold it, imagine it absorbing any lingering feelings of regret or self-blame.
Now, gently sprinkle the salt into your glass of water. Watch it dissolve. As it disappears, imagine your doubts dissolving, too. The water, now infused, represents clarity and renewal. It's about washing away the old and making space for the new.
Drink, Breathe, Listen:
Take a slow sip of the salted water. You don't need to drink the whole glass. As you taste it, feel it nourishing you, bringing a sense of inner peace and clarity. This is about literally internalizing the intention to trust yourself.
Close your eyes again, or gaze softly at the candle flame. Place one hand on your heart and the other on your belly. Breathe deeply again, just as you did at the beginning. This time, as you inhale, imagine breathing in self-trust, self-compassion, and inner knowing. As you exhale, simply listen.
What feelings come up? What quiet thoughts arise? Don't judge them, just notice. This is you, reconnecting with your own quiet wisdom.
A Gentle Landing
When you feel complete, thank yourself for taking this time. Gently blow out the candle. The magic isn't in the ritual itself, but in the space you created to genuinely listen to yourself. You can return to this practice whenever you feel the need to reconnect, to remember that your own guidance is always there, waiting for you to trust it again.
