The Stone You Keep Buying
Sign in to keep this for your altar.
The one in the pocket
There is a certain stone that keeps finding its way into your cart. You buy one for your desk, then one for your coat pocket, and suddenly you are ordering a third because you refuse to leave the house without a backup.
It is smoky quartz. It is not glamorous. It looks like a piece of wet gravel until the light hits it just right and you see that warm, murky brown running through the middle.
What it is actually for
Some stones are for dreaming or opening things up. Smoky quartz is the opposite. It is the stone you want when your nervous system is running like a small engine that cannot find idle.
It is for the days when your own thoughts are too loud. It is for when you have taken on three too many opinions that do not belong to you and your shoulders have crept up toward your ears.
The two-minute reset
You do not need an altar or a full moon for this. You just need the stone and two minutes where nobody is asking you for anything.
Sit down and drop your feet flat against the floor. Put the stone in the palm of your non-dominant hand and close your fingers over it. It will feel cold for a second, then it will warm up to your skin temperature.
Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, hold it for a second, and let it out through your mouth like you are fogging up a cold window.
As you exhale, imagine whatever is making your chest feel tight drifting down your arm, through your hand, and straight into the quartz. Let the stone hold the weight for a minute. It is heavy enough to take it.
When your shoulders finally drop down where they belong, put the stone back in your pocket and go back to your day. You do not have to carry all of it at once.
