The Ten-Minute Reset Before You Sleep
Sign in to keep this for your altar.
The weight of tomorrow
You know that specific kind of tired where your body is heavy, but your brain is still running a tab of everything you didn't finish today?
It is hard to drop into sleep when your thoughts are looping through tomorrow's inbox and next week's grocery list. You do not need a complicated meditation app or an hour of silence to fix this. You just need a blank piece of paper and a pen.
Write it down to let it go
Take five minutes before bed to rewrite your to-do list by hand.
Put down the phone. Do not type it into a notes app where the blue light keeps your eyes wide. Use real paper. Write down every single thing rattling around in your head. The big deadlines, the small chores, the weird text you forgot to reply to.
There is a physical trick to this. When you move those tasks from the inside of your skull onto a flat page, your nervous system finally gets the memo that you do not have to hold them all night. You are not solving them right now. You are just parking them.
Wash your hands of the day
Walk to the kitchen and pour a small glass of water.
Before you drink it, hold the glass between both hands. Feel the cool glass against your palms. Take one slow breath in through your nose, letting your shoulders drop away from your ears, and breathe out through your mouth.
Drink the water. As you swallow, imagine you are putting a physical period at the end of today's sentence. What is done is done. What is left is on the paper on your desk.
Close the loop
Turn off the main light.
Leave the paper face down on your desk or nightstand. You do not have to look at it again until morning. Climb into bed, take one more deep breath in the dark, and let yourself rest.
