Wanting Something Without the Speech

Sign in to keep this for your altar.

Most advice about getting what you want sounds like a corporate retreat. You are told to raise your frequency, write out a five-year plan in blue ink, and state your intentions to the ceiling like you are defending a thesis.

It is exhausting. And mostly, it misses the point of being a human being who simply wants a better couch or a quieter morning.

Wanting Is Not a Courtroom

Wanting something isn't the same as needing to explain why.

We spend so much time building a legal brief for our desires. We feel like we have to prove our longing is mature, practical, and good for the collective before we are allowed to have it.

Drop the brief.

If you want a different job, you do not need to prove that your current workplace is morally bankrupt. If you want to be alone for a weekend, you do not need to diagnose your social burnout to anyone. You are allowed to just want the thing.

The Weight of High Vibes

Manifestation culture loves to tell you that doubt ruins everything.

If you have a worried thought, the theory goes, you have canceled your order with the universe. This turns your inner life into a minefield. You spend all your time monitoring your mood instead of actually living.

Let's clear that up. You can be terrified and still want something fiercely. You can have a sink full of dishes, a knot in your stomach, and a deep, aching desire for a fresh start.

Desire does not require pristine conditions. It just requires you to admit it is there.

A Quieter Way In

Try this instead of scripting your future in a journal.

Sit down, take a breath that reaches your ribs, and name the thing you want without editing it for politeness. Say it out loud to an empty room.

Notice what happens in your body. Usually, there is a tiny drop in your shoulders. That is the feeling of stopping the argument.

You do not have to perform your longing to make it real.
