Why the dates move

The tropical zodiac is tied to the turning of the year, not to the fixed stars: it begins at the March equinox and divides the year into twelve equal arcs. The equinox does not fall at the same clock moment every year, so the Sun crosses into a sign up to a day earlier or later depending on the year — which is why one table says December 22 and another says the day beside it. Neither is wrong. If your birthday sits on a boundary, the answer depends on the YEAR you were born: a table printed once cannot carry that, and a chart cast for your own date can.
