Moon square Mars
Moon square Mars is a short fuse attached to a soft place. The Moon holds emotional safety — what feels like home. Mars supplies desire, pursuit and friction. At a square they pull at cross purposes, so the part that gets hurt and the part that fights back are wired together with nothing in between.
The anger is rarely about what it is about.
What the square is doing
A square is pressure rather than blockage. Neither planet is switched off; both keep working, and each keeps interfering with the other’s business. The Moon wants a situation settled. Mars wants it resolved, which is not the same request.
The characteristic movement is protest. A need goes unmet, and instead of registering as a need it registers as heat — aimed outward at whoever is nearest, or inward at yourself for having had the need at all.
It is also, less obviously, a supply of nerve. Someone with this contact will defend a person they love before they have finished thinking about it, and that reflex and the temper are the same reflex.

People tend to describe this contact differently later in life — not because the wiring changes, but because a person eventually learns where their own fuse sits. Nothing in a chart says whether that learning has happened yet.
Other contacts to Mars decide how the heat leaves. Some route it into work, some into sport, some into nothing at all, and that routing is more informative than the square by itself.
