Moon square Venus is comfort and attraction voting differently. The Moon is emotional safety, what feels like home. Venus is eros and magnetism, what registers as worth wanting. Under a square those two do not nominate the same person, or the same evening.
It is the quietest of the love squares. It arrives as a small persistent mismatch rather than as a crisis, which is why it is usually recognised late.
A disagreement with the floor
The Moon is not counted among the planets at all. It is one of the two lights, and a light sets the baseline temperature of a chart rather than adding a note to it. So a square from Venus is not a quarrel between two fixtures; it is a quarrel with the floor everything else stands on, and floors are hard to notice.
The dignity scheme leaves a clue that the two are capable of better. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, a sign Venus governs — the tradition says in its own vocabulary that these two can arrange themselves unusually well. A square is not evidence that they cannot. A square is granted little room, and nearer to exact is plainer.
The signs matter more here than the angle does. The Moon’s sign defines what counts as safe and Venus’s sign defines what counts as lovely, and it is those two definitions, not the aspect, that are actually in conflict.

- It is an inconvenient one rather than a damaging one. Two faculties that would normally agree about a person are asked to disagree, and the result is ambivalence rather than conflict. Ambivalence is uncomfortable and it is not the same as incompatibility.
