Venus Square Saturn
Venus square Saturn is wanting something and doubting you are allowed to have it. Venus is the part of a chart that reaches for closeness, beauty and pleasure. Saturn is the part that asks what a thing costs and whether it will hold. At a square they pull at right angles to each other, so affection tends to arrive with a condition attached.
Nothing here says the feeling is false. It says the feeling has been made to prove itself first.
What the square is doing
Saturn is not a love planet. In the traditional scheme it governs structure, discipline and the long compounding curve — mastery, authority, the years of work. That is the whole tension of this aspect: the planet of patience and proof is brought to bear on the planet of eros and magnetism, and asked to approve.
What Saturn approves, it approves slowly. So this contact often reads as restraint rather than coldness. The wanting is not smaller. It is held further back, behind a standard that was set early and never quite renegotiated.
There is an old symmetry underneath it worth knowing: Venus rules Libra, and Libra is where Saturn is exalted. The two are not strangers. They meet on the ground of fairness, proportion and what is owed — which is exactly where their argument tends to be had.

What changes the reading
A square is allowed a wide margin, and the width matters: a contact at the far edge of that margin behaves very differently from one that is nearly exact. Closer is louder.
The signs and houses the two occupy change the flavour more than either planet alone does, and other contacts to Venus can soften this considerably — a chart is a set of relationships, not a list of aspects.
A general description cannot tell you which of those apply. That is not a limitation of astrology. It is the difference between a configuration and a chart.
