Venus opposition Saturn
Venus opposition Saturn is affection and its price at opposite ends of one axis. An opposition sets two bodies directly across the chart from one another, facing each other as squarely as the geometry allows. What a square turns into an argument, an opposition turns into a standoff.
The characteristic experience is meeting your own caution in somebody else.
Why an axis behaves differently from an angle
Saturn's subject is time, limit and standard. What it governs is structure and discipline, mastery and authority, and the years of work behind them. Set opposite Venus it does not intrude on affection so much as stand at the far end of it and wait to be satisfied.
Because the two occupy opposite points, the tension has somewhere to go that a square never offers: outward. A quality held at one end of an axis is easily experienced as belonging to whoever is standing at the other end — the reserved one, the demanding one, the one who withholds. Sometimes that is an accurate description of a person. It is always an accurate description of the chart.
That is also what an opposition offers in exchange. A square is felt and rarely seen, because both halves of it are inside the same gesture. An axis can be looked at from either end, and something that can be looked at can eventually be owned.

Choosing people who set the terms, and then objecting to the terms.
Feeling that the cost of closeness is being charged by somebody else.
Long attachments that both people would describe, without complaint, as work.
Warmth that arrives on a schedule rather than on an impulse.
What changes the reading
An opposition is allowed the widest margin in the scheme, alongside the conjunction. It is therefore claimed often, and a wide one behaves mildly.
The two signs involved say what each end of the axis is made of, and they are always different signs. Reading only the Venus end is how half of this contact goes unaccounted for.
Other contacts to Venus decide which end gets lived from. Without them, the axis tends to be occupied at the Saturn end and met at the Venus end, which is how the pattern above gets its shape.

- A square sets two bodies at odds within the chart and reads as internal friction. An opposition sets them at either end of one axis and reads as a standoff, which makes it much more likely to be experienced as coming from outside.
- What is the orb for an opposition?
- The widest margin allowed to any aspect, shared only with the conjunction. A great many oppositions are wide, and wide ones are quiet.
- Does this aspect mean a partner will be cold?
- No. It describes where a reserve sits in a chart and how readily it gets attributed to whoever is nearest. What a natal aspect describes is a configuration, not a person standing at the other end of it.
