Personal Year 6

Obligation, and the people who arrive carrying it

Not sure this is your number? Count it in one step — two dates come back with it, because we count your year from your birthday rather than from 1 January.

A 6 year brings obligation, and it usually brings it in the form of a person. Someone needs something from you this year that they did not need last year, and a good deal of the year organises itself around that.

What a 6 year is for

It is for the domestic order of a life. Six years are where houses get sorted: the move that is about a family rather than a job, the room made for someone, the parent who needs looking after, the household finances finally held by one pair of hands. Work often takes second place, and not by choice.

It is also the repair year. Six is where estranged people get spoken to, where a long-running argument gets resolved or formally abandoned, where a marriage gets tended rather than endured. The good version of a 6 year is not sacrifice — it is maintenance, done on purpose, on the things that were quietly wearing through.

And it is for teaching and being needed. A striking number of people take on their first real mentoring or caregiving role in a 6 year, and find they are better at it than they expected and more tired than they anticipated.

The part nobody says

Being needed is not the same as being loved, and a 6 year will show you the difference if you have been mixing them up.

The failure mode is specific and it is not selfishness. It is over-function: taking on the whole weight because you can, until the arrangement quietly becomes permanent and nobody remembers agreeing to it. Six years create load-bearing people, and load-bearing people rarely get asked how they are.

There is a second, sharper thing. A 6 year often puts a real conflict between your own work and somebody else's need, and there is no version of that conflict where nobody loses. Anyone who tells you the year resolves it beautifully is selling something. What the year can do is make the trade conscious — chosen rather than drifted into — and a chosen trade is survivable in a way a drifted one is not.

Resentment is the tax on the unsaid version. It accumulates quietly and it is usually paid by whoever needed you.

How the year is cut

Your Personal Year runs birthday to birthday — from your last birthday to the day before your next. That is our convention, and it differs from the 1 January boundary most free calculators use. If a number from another site does not match ours, that boundary is almost always the reason.

The twelve turnings inside the year open on your own day of the month. Born on the 2nd, they open on the 2nd. In a year that is mostly about other people's timing, having your own edges written down is worth more than it sounds.

The strip below is worked out for one reader. The dates are real; the twelve values are not printed. They belong to the Personal Year Blueprint, and an honest blank is better than a blurred number.

Where the number came from

Birth month plus birth day plus the year you are standing in, reduced under our house rules. Nothing is hidden and nothing is rounded.

The Personal Year calculator prints a receipt while it answers: your two dates, the year counted against, and your Life Path and Birth Day derived line by line. If your own arithmetic disagrees with ours, you will be able to see exactly where.

What this page does not know

It does not know your dates, your turning, your Life Path or your name. It knows one number about a year.

A 6 year over a Life Path 1 is a year of being pulled away from your own work by people you love. Over a Life Path 6 it can be the year the whole life finally fits. Same number, different year. Count yours and read it from your own two dates.

A worked example

Take Teresita Bautista, born on the 2nd, and suppose the addition landed on 6. Then the year runs 2 November 2026 to 1 November 2027 — birthday to birthday — and it is cut into twelve turnings that open on the 2nd of each month rather than the 1st.

  1. 12 Nov1 Decwritten
  2. 22 Dec1 Janwritten
  3. 32 Jan1 Febwritten
  4. 42 Feb1 Marwritten
  5. 52 Mar1 Aprwritten
  6. 62 Apr1 Maywritten
  7. 72 May1 Junwritten
  8. 82 Jun1 Julwritten
  9. 92 Jul1 Augwritten
  10. 102 Aug1 Sepwritten
  11. 112 Sep1 Octwritten
  12. 122 Oct1 Novwritten

The dates are real and the numbers beside them are not printed. That is deliberate — those twelve values are written out in the Personal Year Blueprint, and a blurred number would be a sales technique rather than an honest edge. To see this strip with your own dates on it, count your year.

Three windows in a 6 year

The arrival

turnings 14 · 2 Nov 1 Mar

The opening stretch is where someone needs something. A parent, a child, a partner, a household, a business that has become a household. It rarely announces itself as a theme; it arrives as one phone call.

The carrying

turnings 59 · 2 Mar 1 Aug

The long middle is the work of being depended on. This is the most quietly demanding stretch of the nine-year cycle, and it is where the difference between being generous and being unable to say no becomes practical rather than philosophical.

The settling

turnings 1012 · 2 Aug 1 Nov

By the close, a 6 year has usually rearranged a home or a household into a shape it will keep. Something has been repaired or accepted. It is a slower, warmer three months than the eight before them.

Those three windows are dated against Teresita Bautista’s birthday. Yours fall on your own day of the month, which is the point — why we count from the birthday.

Where this stops

The other eleven turnings are written, each with its own dates.
